Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes.

  • See our pricing page.

  • Sorry, but we do not accept legal aid.

  • No. We used to, but people kept trying to use them to get free legal advice, which we do not provide. We ultimately decided that it was more cost-effective to only accept paid consultations.

  • We do not provide free legal advice.

  • Paid consultations cost between $200-$390 (plus tax) depending on the length chosen (30-60 minutes) and lawyer involved. You can book one here.

  • This ensures all parties make efficient use of time. And since most people contact us seeking legal advice, it allows us to provide legal advice for proper value.

  • We want to take on as many cases as we can responsibly manage. However, paying for a consultation does not guarantee we will take your case. We may refuse a case if we don’t believe it has a reasonable likelihood of success; taking the case would be unethical or against our values; or we believe the client has unreasonable expectations. These are common reasons for refusal, among others.

  • To ensure we can offer the best service to all our clients, you must let us know at least two (2) hours before your appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule, otherwise rebooking will not be permitted and the firm will not accept your matter. This helps us manage our schedule effectively and offer your spot to others in need. We kindly ask for your understanding, as missed appointments and late cancellations for consultations impact our ability to serve everyone.

  • We are based out of WeWork at 240 Richmond St. W., Toronto, ON M5V 1V6. We are also in the process of opening up a New York City office.

  • No.

  • Very rarely, and typically only for parties we're already familiar with. Not new clients.

  • You can book a paid consultation here for immediate legal advice, provided it pertains to one of our practice areas (i.e., sustainability, psychedelics, and housing). Pricing varies by lawyer.

  • You can book an urgent consultation for a premium price here. If no dates/times are available for as soon as you would like, we apologize, but we cannot offer anything sooner.

  • Everything is remote, but in-person meetings are also generally available at our WeWork address in Toronto. You can choose one or the other via the booking form.

  • Yes, there is no barrier to taking on cases outside Toronto unless it requires an in-person hearing, which is rarely the case these days. You can learn more about our jurisdictional policies here.

  • Potentially. You can learn more about our jurisdictional policies here.

  • The firm has no paralegals at this time, only lawyers and law clerks. See our Personnel page to learn more.

  • It doesn't really matter whether the person you hire is a lawyer or a paralegal for a Landlord and Tenant Board matter (though paralegals are not permitted to handle Divisional or Superior Court cases). What truly matters is whether they are competent, experienced, and able to effectively handle your legal matter.

  • Generally, no, you either get one or the other at any given time. Though packages will only apply to certain work, and anything outside the defined scope of the package may be billable at hourly rates. However, we abide by the principal that there should not be any surprises when it comes to legal bills. So if you’re going to be billed for anything at the hourly rate, we’ll tell you that’s going to happen before it does.

  • No, there is always a lot of preparation work required for a hearing, so hearing representation will not be provided outside of a subscription month. The fee for that package pays us to block out our day, and ensure we can show up prepared for your hearing.

  • Yes.

  • We help companies, organizations, professionals, and individuals with legal matters relating to psychedelics. Often this is corporate law or regulatory compliance-type work. We do not assist with anything that is illegal.

  • No.

  • We work with green businesses, environment-focused organizations, and individuals with legal matters pertaining to sustainability. Often these are corporate law matters, though sometimes we also help these clients with litigation and/or policy guidance.

  • Read our Google reviews. We've never done that to a client and never will. It's bad business.
